LGV theory test format and pass marks
Learn the official LGV part 1 format, pass marks of 85 out of 100 and 67 out of 100, certificate rules and how practice sets fit the real test.
For a professional lorry driver, Driver CPC part 1 is made up of multiple choice and hazard perception. The two parts are booked separately and can be taken on the same day. You must pass both within two years of each other to receive the theory-test certificate.

The multiple-choice test lets you flag questions, return to them and change answers before finishing. The hazard test does not: each clip is shown once. One of the 19 clips contains two developing hazards, and each developing hazard is worth up to five points.
Match revision to the full test
Eteo’s LGV practice sets divide the question bank into manageable groups. A single set is not a full simulation of the official 100-question paper. Combine sets or plan a separate timed session long enough to test concentration across 1 hour 55 minutes.
Sort errors into general road rules and LGV-specific duties. Vehicle weights, braking distance, load security, daily checks, drivers’ hours and vulnerable road users require more than a car-level answer. For each wrong answer, identify the legal or safety rule and the practical consequence of ignoring it.
Hazard perception measures timing, not only recognition. Watch for an early clue that begins to require action: a closing gap, an obscured pedestrian, a vehicle drifting into your stopping space or a changing signal. Avoid rhythmic or continuous clicking, which can score zero for a clip.
